Paula McQuaid
Founder
Paula McQuaid, co-founder and in-house research lead, fuels HONE’s innovation with her passion for uncovering what truly shapes human wellness. For the past fifteen years, she’s dedicated herself to understanding how people thrive, then translating that insight into tools that help athletes, coaches, and organizations perform at their best through HONE’s platform.
A proud Gonzaga University graduate with a Master of Counselling and a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, Paula brings both academic depth and human connection to her work. Alongside her role with HONE, she has served as a Mental Performance Consultant for Hockey Canada’s Women’s U-18 National Team, quietly keeping two Gold (2019, 2022), one Silver (2020), and one Bronze (2018) IIHF medals tucked away in her top drawer.
When she’s not guiding clients or advancing sport research, Paula is likely hiking toward an “après hike” reward or catching a championship game - any sport will do. A native of PEI, she’s always eager for a trip home and rarely seen without her Corgi, Gus, who shares her love for great company and fresh air.

Jessica Renney
Founder
Jessica, co-founder and resident pitch connoisseur, leads growth at HONE with her sharp insight, energy, and passion for connecting people to purpose.
Born in Trail, British Columbia, and raised across Western Canada by two coaches, Jess has always been surrounded by sport and the pursuit of excellence. A graduate of the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, she later completed her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at the University of Victoria. She is also a member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
Seeing firsthand the pressure and barriers that exist in high-performance environments, both through her work and through her upbringing as the daughter of a 13 year NHL coach, Jess became driven to find a better way. She is passionate about helping leaders evolve how they support individual development, wellness, and performance, shaping those efforts daily through HONE’s platform and partnerships.
When not forging new relationships or finding HONE’s next opportunity for impact, Jess can usually be found at a local market scouting out the freshest produce or perfecting her next homemade salad dressing for family dinner.

ABOUT
We believe in well-being through team culture.
Co-founders Jessica Renney and Paula McQuaid spent years working at the heart of sport and performance guiding teams, associations, universities, and national organizations through the mental side of competition. As certified psychotherapists, they combined one-on-one coaching with dynamic workshops to help people truly understand and protect athlete mental wellness.
But after years in practice, the experience revealed a clear truth, lasting impact doesn’t stop at individual support; it comes from reshaping the culture that drives performance.
They knew that when people feel valued, connected, and energized, performance thrives and when coaches stay tuned in to their team’s mindset, they can respond with confidence, clarity, and care.
Thus HONE Athletics came to be.
Our unique digital platform empowers sport leaders with the technology and expert guidance needed to create healthy, happy, high-performing athletes.
